Professional CV photo guide
A photo is not universally required. Use one only when it is normal and appropriate in the destination market or explicitly requested by a legitimate employer.

Choose the right context
In several markets employers prefer applications without a photo to reduce bias. Research the destination and sector before adding one. A professional profile image is not a substitute for identity verification.
Frame and light the image
Use a simple background, even front lighting and a head-and-shoulders crop. Keep the camera near eye level. Clothing should match the normal level of formality for the role rather than imitate a passport photo.
Prepare the file
Use JPG, PNG or WebP with enough resolution to remain sharp at small display sizes. A roughly square or 4:5 image is flexible. Compress carefully and do not stretch the picture inside the CV.
Practical checklist
- A photo is appropriate for the destination
- The image is current and recognizable
- Eyes and face are sharp
- Background is not distracting
- Aspect ratio is not distorted
- File size is reasonable
