Guide

Prepare and verify a CV PDF

PDF is usually the safest delivery format because it preserves layout. The export still needs to be checked: text can become images, fonts can break and links can point to the wrong place.

What you will learn

  • Export instead of photographing or scanning
  • Confirm that text remains selectable
  • Check every page at normal zoom
  • Use a clear filename without sensitive data

Export from the source document

Use the Save as PDF or Export command in your editor. Avoid printing and scanning a paper copy, because scanned pages are harder for ATS systems to read and often produce large files.

Run a visual and text check

Open the PDF on a second device if possible. Check page breaks, characters, bullets, links and margins. Copy text from the beginning, middle and end into a plain-text editor to verify extraction order.

Name and protect the file sensibly

Use a filename such as Firstname-Lastname-Role-CV.pdf. Do not add passport numbers, dates of birth or unrelated internal notes. Avoid passwords unless the verified recipient has requested a protected document and provided a secure exchange method.

Practical checklist

  • Text can be searched and copied
  • No blank or clipped pages exist
  • Links point to the correct destination
  • Fonts and symbols render correctly
  • The filename is professional
  • File size meets the application limit
