Guide
Cover letter writing guide
A useful cover letter does not repeat the CV. It explains the match: why this role, why this organization and which evidence should the reader notice first.
What you will learn
- Open with a specific reason for applying
- Connect one need with one strong example
- Show knowledge without flattery
- End with a simple next step
Write to the vacancy, not to every employer
Use the exact role and organization name. Mention a genuine element of the work, product, service or mission that makes the application relevant. Avoid unsupported enthusiasm and copied company slogans.
Make the middle paragraph do the work
Choose one or two requirements and connect them with a concise example. Explain the action you took, the environment and the result. The evidence should add context rather than duplicate a CV bullet word for word.
Close confidently and accurately
Confirm interest, availability if relevant and willingness to discuss the fit. Do not claim that you are the perfect candidate or pressure the reader for an immediate response.
Practical checklist
- The correct company and role are named
- The opening is specific
- At least one requirement is supported by evidence
- The letter fits on one page
- Contact details match the CV
- Placeholders have been removed
